The King Makers Exposed!

On July 24, 1994, Ex Director General ISI Lt. Gen. Asad Durrani submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, confessing that, on the directives of General (R) Mirza Aslam Baig, Ex Army Chief of Pakistan and Ghulam Ishaq Khan Ex President of Pakistan, Millions of Rupees had been distributed among different politicians, to form a grand alliance named Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) to topple the Government of Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto (Late).
According to the Affidavit the money distributed among:
Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi Rs 5 million,
Jam Sadiq Rs 5 million,
Muhammad Khan Junejo Rs 2.5 million,
Nawaz Sharif Rs 3.5 million,
Pir Pagaro Rs 2 million,
Jamaat-e-Islami Rs 5 million,
Mir Afzal Khan Rs 10 million,
Abida Hussain Rs 1 million,
Lt Gen Rafaqat Rs 5.6 million for managing the media campaign,
Humayun Marri Rs 1.5 million,
Zafarullah Jamali Rs 4 million,
Kakar Rs 1 million,
Jam Yousaf Rs 0.7 million,
Hasil Bizenjo Rs 0.5 million,
Nadir Mengal Rs 1 million,
Altaf Hussain Qureshi and Mustafa Sadiq Rs 0.5 million,
Salahuddin Rs 0.3 million,
Smaller Groups Rs 5.4 million,
Others 3.339 million.
It was not the first time when Army, Secret Agencies or Establishment had been blamed to interfere into the politics. Back in 1989 the same people, i.e., Gen. Mirza Aslam Baig and Ghulam Ishaq Khan were blamed to pay the senior politicians of PPP to bring the vote of no confidence against Benazir Bhutto (Late). Major Amir and Brig. Imtiaz were on the front. The conspiracy “Operation Midnight Jackal” to topple the first Govt. of Benazir had failed.
Another example of the “King Makers” interference in Politics was the famous “Jinnah Pur Conspiracy” against MQM, which, Brig. Imtiaz, the then Director General IB, revealed himself. Undercover their motives were to eliminate people’s real representative and to bring their puppets into the power.
As against the assumptions, SC have taken action on the Asghar Khan Petition, filed in 1996, known as “Mehrangate Scandal. Many confessional statements have appeared in media wherein many shamelessly admitted misusing the public funds to support their favourite candidates. It was a normal routine to support favorite candidates/parties, said Aslam Baig. Gave bribe money myself to Nawaz Shareef, said Younus Habib, former chief of Mehran Bank. Distributed Money on directives of Aslam Baig, said Gen. Asad Durrani, former DG ISI. Ghulam Ishaq Khan wanted to bring Nawaz Shareef and Right Wing Groups into the power, said Yousuf Memon Advocate. Interestingly, many of the members of IJI denied if they had taken bribes, including Jamat-e-Islami and PMLN. MQM once again proved to be the only clean and corruption free party of Pakistan.
The case is in Supreme Court. Analysts says it would change alot of things into the political arena before the next general elections, as many of the characters are alive and are still active in the politics, while PMLN chief declared it an allegation and to divert the attention from Govt’s corruption. Whatever it is, one thing is sure, it will bar the King Makers to interfere the politics in the future!
