Still I Remember That Day – 19 June 1992

Though this date 19 June 1992 has been discussed thousands of times at different TV Channels, Media Reports, Among the People or at the Internet Forums, I want to rephrase some of its darkest points which not only had affected the lives of the millions but still the ghost of 19 June has surrounded the generations of Pakistan.
.
Operation Clean-up on this date 19 June 1992 was not only against MQM, the Third Largest Party of Pakistan and Second Largest Party of Southern Province of Sindh, but also it was against the whole Urdu Speaking Community. The aims and motives were very clear, the Ruling Elite Class being represented by the then Chief of the Army Staff General Asif Nawaz Janjua and the then Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Shareef wanted to silent that voice which was trying to wake-up the Nation. They attempted every sort of State Terrorism on MQM Leadership and Followers, even common men, women, elders and children were not safe from their evil hands. 15000 of MQM workers and more than 15000 general public was butchered during that period.
.
Besides those who lost their lives, those who are still alive have suffered heavily and still are suffering. Let us have a look how this State Owned Operation Clean-up under the supervision of General Asif Nawaz Janjua and Mian Nawaz Shareef had destroyed the Country and the Nation:
.
ECONOMY DESTRUCTION:
.
Karachi being the Economical Hub of Pakistan had affected heavily due to this Operation and a loss of Millions of Dollars was estimated during that operation. The Daily Wagers had been affected the most and Business People shifted their business to other cities or other countries. The Overall Economy was destroyed in that era. Especially there were incidents which proved that they had planned a conspiracy against Karachi to destroy its economy. We may take “Doubling the Tax on Everything in Karachi and Declaring Punjab as Tax Free Zone” as an example of that.
.
EDUCATIONAL LOSS:
.
The state owned war against its own people hijacked the whole city specially the Government Buildings became the barracks of the Army and Para-Military Rangers which are still in the city for last 25 years. They took over all the Government College Buildings, University Hostels, School’s Buildings and in some cases Private Properties too. Student had to drop the classes and sometimes their Examinations too due to worst law and order situation, curfew or Checking door to door by the Army Personnel.
.
LOSS OF TRUST:
.
The army which was beloved and the apple of the eyes of all Pakistanis lost its reputation and trust among the general public. In some incidents public protested heavily against the extra judicial killing by some of the Army Personnel. News papers quoted the incidents. Rangers specially lost its reputation as neutral and guard of general public. Some of the Rangers Officers found to be abducting the innocent civilians and taking ransom to release them.
.
IMAGE LOSS:
.
Pakistan as a developing, progressive and a liberal country lost its image. At one side its own Army and Government was conducting the State Owned Operation against its own people at other side it was made hostage in the hands of some so-called sectarian and jihadi elements who by chance got support within the ranks of Army and Intelligence Agencies. By the time, the same elements became a big monster. Now the world knows about Pakistan as an Extremist State and a Safe Haven for Terrorists.
.
MEDICAL AND HEALTH ISSUES:
.
At one side, when this operation forced the public representatives to go underground to save their lives, at other side an organized conspiracy was noticed to destroy the image of Karachi as the City of Lights. Once the city which was known as the Poor Friendly City was made the dirtiest city and some elements destroyed its public facilities, parks, hospital, roads, bridges, water and sewerage system, electric system, transport system and every sort of civic system to make it a hell. The planned massacre and horrible day and nights of the city made the Karachiites uncertain about their lives and their future. Different types of Medical and Health issues had been noticed during that period.
.
CREATING RACISM AND HATRED AMONG PAKISTANIS:
.
The Ruling Elite Class not only used all the available resources to crush the Voice of Truth, but also they used dirty tactics to malign the image of MQM and to make it an Alien among all other Pakistanis. They created Racism and Ethnic differences and hatred against the Common Urdu Speaking people. The small seed they sowed now became a huge tree. Now this Racism and Hatred among Pakistanis is become a Monster.
.
CREATING CULTURE OF EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLING:
.
In the history of Pakistan, the responsible of worst Operation Clean-up, General Asif Nawaz Janjua and Mian Nawaz Shreef introduced “Extra Judicial Killing” of rivals and opponents. MQM people who were picked up from their houses were Extra Judicially Killed on the roads tied their hands on the back declaring it a Police Encounter. The Media that time too highlighted such Police Encounter in which the victim’s hands are tied on the back. Now in the country, especially in Punjab the fake Police Encounters are a routine.
.
NATION LOST A WHOLE YOUNG & TELENTED GENERATION:
.
The worst part is, in that Inhuman Operation Clean-up, the responsible destroyed, killed and spoiled a whole lot of young, energetic and educated youth for their petty gains. Thousands of household lost their bread earners, which resulted in more poverty for their families and for the entire nation. The country lost thousands of doctors, engineers, chartered accounts, teachers and skilled technicians, as all those were not only studying in some Universities and Colleges but also were busy in earning bread for their families.
.
It has been 19 years, but still all the incidents are fresh in my mind, still the ghost of that darkest era of the history of Pakistan has surrounded me, the people who looked at me with great hatred and told me that “We are here to Fix You People” are still fresh in my mind. I don’t know where they would be, but wherever they are I want to tell them that look we are still here glowing and flourishing day by day, where are you? Or where are your guns which you had pointed out at us?
.
People responsible are still out of the hands of law; the victims and their families are waiting for justice! May I ask the Nation, are they ready to deliver the justice to them now or still they are as careless as they were? Keep in mind “Justice Delayed is the Justice Denied”!!!
